Phone hoaxes and real life

Under the title, A hoax call that could have triggered war, the Pakistani newspaper Dawn on December 5 reported a far more dangerous hoax than the faked phone call last month from a supposed President Sarkozy of France to then Republican Vice-Presidential Candidate, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska.

Apparently, Pakistani forces was put on high alert in response to the faked call, when “some senior members of the presidential staff decided to bypass the standard procedures meant for such occasions, including verification of the caller and involvement of the diplomatic missions, and transferred the late-evening call to Mr Zardari”.

The whole story is worth reading.
