I found this twinning of quotes as epigraphs Gregory Boyd’s book, Escaping the Matrix: Setting Your Mind Free to Experience Real Life in Christ, and the parallelism between the two quotes goes quite a distance when you consider that, as Boyd notes, “the Greek word suschematizo, which is translated “pattern,” could in fact be translated as “schema” — or yes, even “matrix.”

I am interested in Boyd’s work since he writes about spiritual warfare in a far more grounded anthropological, and theologically more nuanced, way than many of his colleagues, in his book God at War: The Bible & Spiritual Conflict — and has also published a critique of the evangelical right for espousing a “kingdom of this world”.
